Kirsten Wegner is the Chief Executive Officer of Modern Markets Initiative, the education and advocacy organization devoted to the role of technological innovation in creating the world’s best markets. She is known for her thought leadership in advancing secure savings and investment through innovation. Prior to being appointed CEO, she served as Senior Vice President of Business Development for MMI.
Kirsten is frequently quoted on market structure issues including exchange data fees, intellectual property protection of source code, the negative implications of a potential financial transaction tax as well as the trading of cryptocurrencies in publications including The Wall Street Journal, Business Insider, and Politico and regularly pens Op-Eds on these and other topics.
Before to joining MMI, she served as Director, Government Relations for the International Securities Exchange where she created bipartisan outreach and advocacy strategy on financial services and tax matters impacting exchanges and retail investors.
Previously, she was a Senior Associate at Squire Patton Boggs LLP, providing strategic counsel to technology startups, stock exchanges, Industry trade organizations, and brokerages on financial services, tax, and technology matters.
Kirsten holds a J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. degree from Columbia University.
