Wesley Wright is Chief Operating Officer of Varo Bank, where he leads customer experience, operations and strategic partnerships.  Varo is on a mission to help people become more financially resilient. In one mobile app, Varo offers customers premium bank accounts that have no minimum balance requirement or monthly account fee, high-interest savings accounts, and tech-first features to help people save and manage their money more easily. Varo is the first consumer fintech to be granted a national bank charter by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, with regulatory approvals from the FDIC and Federal Reserve.  Based in San Francisco and Utah and privately held, Varo’s investors include Warburg Pincus, TPG/The Rise Fund, and Gallatin Point Capital.

Wesley brings to Varo over 25 years experience in financial services, with a focus on new product development, customer experience and operations. He was one of the first members of the Varo leadership team, joining in 2016, and has helped build the business and all of its operations infrastructure from the ground up.  Prior to Varo, he was a Senior Vice President in American Express’ digital payments unit, where he led the launch of multiple digital payments products, including a mobile banking partnership with Walmart. He also led Amex’s prepaid travel payments business globally, with employees based in over 15 countries.  Prior to Amex, he worked at McKinsey, Brown Brothers Harriman, and TradeOut, a B2B marketplace startup.
