Greg O’Gara is a senior research analyst for Aite Group's Wealth Management practice, focused on retail clearing, operations, financial advisor technology, and other topics across the wealth management industry. He has done extensive research on managed accounts, financial services competitive positioning, the U.S. regulatory environment, and investor behavior—recommending tactical and strategic responses for clients.
Before joining Aite Group, Mr. O’Gara was with TD Ameritrade for eight years. He was hired to start the firm’s Competitive Intelligence Group and served as director of Competitive Intelligence and Business Development. He covered all public and private full-service and discount brokers for the firm, including product, pricing, platforms, marketing, acquisitions, RIA custody, and emerging competitive threats. He served in various strategic advisory roles for senior management in all areas of the firm. Prior to TD Ameritrade, Mr. O’Gara worked in various strategic marketing, research, and competitive intelligence positions for TIAA, Prudential Financial, UBS, and PaineWebber.
Mr. O’Gara holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University at Buffalo (UB, the State University of New York) as well as an MBA in Finance from Fordham University, and completed post-graduate work at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Other interests include his patent application for helmets that utilize magnetic fields to protect against concussion-related sports injuries. His creative writing and paintings have been accepted for publication in Hektoen International, a journal of medical humanities affiliated with the University of Chicago.
